6 Steps - How to turn Rock Bottom into Purpose

Hitting rock bottom leaves us with two choices. We can face our mess head on or stay stuck. I’m hoping you’ve taken the brave decision and that’s why you’re here. When I was at rock bottom my self-confidence was sh*t, I was depressed, and my anxiety was on overload.

Today I’m thankful for the experience as it’d made me the woman I am today. When I finally realized that I needed to get back to myself and find my purpose I began an intense research-based journey of self-discovery. The journey included peeling layers away that I no longer wanted in my life and adding confidence and self-love in their place.

If you’ve been feeling like you’ve lost your passion, your reason for waking each new day, the list below can help you find your why and reignite your spark!

1). Write a letter to yourself.

I know, it sounds corny, but I’m telling you it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done! Tell yourself everything that you want to be, what excites you, and what would make you want to get out of bed every morning ready to embrace the new day. No judgment or negative talk. Just EVERYTHING your dream life would look and feel like. If you have trouble writing or feel unsure think about what you wanted to be when you were a child and the things you did that came natural to.

2). Spend time with people who encourage and support you.

When you spend time with positive people you’ll gain inspiration, support, and great knowledge from hearing their stories. They say we’re the equivalent of the 5 people we spend the most time with and I now believe that! Think about your circle. Are they inspiring, motivated and supportive? It’s important to remember that anyone can fit in, but to live your best life you need to be where you belong.

3). Create an Action Plan

Using the letter you created in step number one, pick the dream that sparked the most fire inside of you. Ask yourself what obstacles are in your way and what you can do to eliminate each one. Write your answers down. Writing creates a visual that helps validate your goals. After you’ve come listed the ways you can remove obstacles, break your dream into small actionable goals. Commit to taking at least ONE step every day towards your goal.

4). Stop caring about the opinions of others.

We all have something that we need to contribute to the world, something that makes us feel fulfilled. Just because it’s not suited for your friend, a sister or someone that you care about doesn’t mean it’s not meant for you. When you’re met with resistance or judgement that’s another call to stand tall with your story, your creativity and your passion for honoring yourself.

5). Create a daily ritual that’s only about connecting to YOU.

Make part of your daily ritual time to express gratitude. Gratitude shifts our mindset and energy into one of positive and graciousness. Whether it’s through journaling, prayer, or simply writing a daily letter to yourself. When you express gratitude, you will also find personal insights that can deeply contribute to igniting your purpose. You can find free printable daily gratitude journaling pages here.

6). Become a warrior of your purpose.

When you become aware of your why you’ll become fiercely protective when it comes to your non-negotiables and boundaries. Jumping into something that scares you is empowering. If you need to go silent for a few weeks or even months, do it. I spent 6 months focusing on myself alone. I was so engrossed in my mission that feeling lonely never last but a few moments.
